Music from Gambangan played by the community around KCBN Muarajambi played beautifully during the groundbreaking procession for the Tegak Tiang Tuo procession which was held on June 5 2024.
This marks the official implementation of the Muarajambi National Cultural Heritage Area (KCBN) Revitalization megaproject, in Muaro Jambi Regency, Jambi Province.
This procession is carried out following local customs, namely the Peslang Tiang Tuo procession as a symbol of various aspects of life and the harmonious power of nature.
Upright Tiang Tuo involves placing the first pole using bulian wood in the middle of the building site, equipped with cecokot, bargain stabun, and reciting pento as an expression of prayer and hope.
This procession begins with the laying of gold, silver, iron, horse hooves and sawang wind and ends with the sprinkling of fresh powder and a cup of salt. Tuo poles are then decorated with casual clothes, candlenut oil, powder, eyeliner, kincu, and perfume which symbolizes the hope that this house will be a comfortable and attractive place..
Next, the procession ends with installing a rattan umbrella with seredang leaves, reading a prayer, and eating a dish of Puluran Selemak Manis as a form of gratitude.
After the Upright Tiang Tuo procession, the event continued with tree planting as a symbol of commitment to preserving the environment. This step shows that development does not only focus on the physical aspects of the temple but also on environmental sustainability.
Fauzia Ulfa (22), who was present and acted as a narrator at the local cultural event Tegak Tiang Tuo, said that, "I am grateful, because with this revitalization, it is automatic, as Mr. Agus mentioned, that this revitalization is not only revitalization for the temple, but also for the community resources."
